Project Overview
Verlane Media was engaged by LINCON to document live night works on Brisbane’s iconic Story Bridge. The project involved multiple trucks operating within a closed traffic lane, performing essential infrastructure works over the Brisbane River.
Due to the location, height and water below, the shoot required fully compliant night drone operations alongside ground-based photography.
- Client: LINCON
- Location: Story Bridge, Brisbane
- Scope: Drone and ground photography during live night works
- Environment: Closed traffic lane over water
- Operational Conditions: Night flight operations, live infrastructure, multiple moving vehicles
- Deliverables: Edited high-resolution imagery for marketing and documentation
The Challenge: Night Operations Over Water
This was not a staged shoot. The works were live, the bridge lane was temporarily closed, and multiple trucks were operating simultaneously. Timing was critical and access windows were limited.
- Operating a drone at night in compliance with CASA requirements
- Flying safely over water and active infrastructure
- Managing bright work lights against a dark skyline
- Capturing sharp, clean imagery in low-light conditions
- Coordinating positioning without disrupting operational crews
Night aerial operations require additional planning, approvals, risk assessments and precision flying. Visibility, orientation and exposure control become significantly more complex compared to daytime shoots.
Our Approach
Preparation was essential. We conducted pre-flight planning and risk assessment for night operations, completed compliance checks and approvals for flying over water and infrastructure, and coordinated with site supervisors regarding vehicle positioning and timing.
From the air, we focused on wide establishing shots that showcased the scale of the bridge structure, the dramatic city skyline backdrop, reflections across the Brisbane River, and multiple LINCON vehicles operating simultaneously.
From the ground, we captured detail shots of vehicles and equipment, lighting contrasts and operational intensity, and the precision and professionalism of the crew.
Balancing exposure between powerful work lights and deep night shadows required careful camera settings and post-production refinement to maintain clarity without losing atmosphere.
The Result
The final imagery delivered dramatic aerial perspectives of the Story Bridge at night, clear documentation of LINCON’s operational capability, and marketing-ready visuals highlighting fleet scale and professionalism.
The combination of structural geometry, vibrant lighting and city reflections created a powerful visual narrative — demonstrating not only the work being completed, but the capability behind it.
Why It Matters
Infrastructure works at night are rarely seen by the public, yet they represent significant expertise, compliance and coordination. Capturing these moments visually strengthens marketing, tender submissions and stakeholder communications.
