Project Overview
Verlane Media partnered with Arrow Transport to produce a recruitment focused video titled A Day in the Life of a Side Loader Driver. The objective was simple but powerful: show potential employees what the role really looks like, including the pace, the equipment, the professionalism, and the people behind the work.
This project involved shadowing one of Arrow’s drivers for a full working day, capturing ground based footage and live audio as the day unfolded naturally. Rather than staged scenes or scripted interviews, the video was designed to feel authentic, practical, and credible for viewers considering the role.
- Client: Arrow Transport
- Project type: Recruitment and employer branding video
- Scope: Full day ride along filming
- Client relationship: Repeat customer
The Objective
Arrow Transport wanted more than a polished corporate video. They wanted authenticity.
Instead of staged interviews in an office setting, this project was designed to:
- Showcase the real working environment
- Highlight modern equipment and safe practices
- Capture driver personality and pride
- Demonstrate the types of sites and conditions drivers work in
- Position Arrow as a desirable employer
The end result needed to function as a recruitment tool: an honest, professional look inside the job.
The Challenge
Unlike a scripted production with controlled locations, this project unfolded in real time.
At the beginning of the day:
- We did not know which sites would be visited
- We did not know the layout or restrictions of those sites
- We did not know lighting conditions or access limitations
- We had to remain flexible without delaying operations
Industrial transport schedules cannot be slowed down for filming. Every minute matters. The key constraint was efficiency: capturing meaningful footage without interfering with deliveries, safety protocols, or site access procedures.
Our Approach
Real Time Adaptability
Filming in a live industrial environment requires rapid decisions and constant situational awareness. Throughout the day we balanced safety, workflow, and storytelling by moving quickly between angles and locations while staying clear of operational activity.
Each stop required immediate evaluation:
- Where is the best angle for the action?
- What is the safest filming position?
- How do we capture movement without obstructing workflow?
All of this was handled dynamically, with no opportunity for rehearsal.
Authentic Audio and Personality
To create a compelling recruitment piece, we captured natural audio and real interactions throughout the day, including in cab dialogue, driver commentary, ambient site sound, and informal moments between tasks.
This brought personality into the final edit. Instead of scripted messaging, viewers experience the role as it happens, building trust and relatability.
Minimal Operational Disruption
Throughout the shoot, the truck schedule remained uninterrupted. Delivery timings were maintained and site procedures were respected. The production adapted to the workday, not the other way around.
Results
Verlane Media delivered a polished recruitment video that:
- Showcases Arrow Transport’s modern fleet
- Highlights professionalism and safety standards
- Demonstrates the diversity of daily work environments
- Positions the driver role as skilled and rewarding
The finished video functions as:
- A recruitment tool
- A brand positioning asset
- Social media content
- Website employer branding material
Why Day in the Life Content Works
In transport and industrial sectors, recruitment can be competitive. Prospective drivers want practical answers: what equipment will I operate, what does a typical day look like, what kind of company culture exists, and are operations organised and professional?
Video answers those questions instantly. By following a real driver through real job sites, Arrow Transport is able to demonstrate, not just describe, the quality of their operation.
Ongoing Partnership
As a repeat client, Arrow Transport trusted Verlane Media to execute a project that required both operational awareness and creative storytelling. That trust supported clear communication on the day and confidence in capturing authentic material without disrupting workflow.
